Classic mulled wine recipe
This classic mulled wine recipe is Polly's perfect winter warmer. Christmas in July is a great time to cook up a batch and get cosy by the fire.
Ingredients
- Cloves (approx. 10)
- One mandarin (sliced)
- Two cinnamon sticks
- Three star anise
- Half tsp of ground nutmeg
- Quarter cup of caster sugar
- Two shots of brandy (optional)
- One bottle of red wine
Method
- Stick cloves into the mandarin slices and place in a slow cooker or crock pot.
- Add the mulled spices (cinnamon, star anise and nutmeg) to the pot.
- Add the sugar and brandy and stir all together
- Pour in the bottle of red wine and turn to lowest or 'auto' setting
- Leave for approx. one hour until hot, but do not let the wine boil, as this will cook off the alcohol.
- Ladle into your favourite Christmas mug and garnish with a mandarin slice.
